The Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR2 1080p LCD HDTV is a good looking set with the cool floating glass frame. The glass frame is not overly big, but may take up a little bit of real estate if space is a concern. It’s also not shiny and reflective even in a well lit room if that was your concern. You can also buy different color bezels to match the color of your room. The rear of the Bravia KDL-40XBR2 could have been designed better for accessing cables, but its tolerable and not a major concern. There are 3 HDMI ports and the inputs can be custom labeled if you have a few HDMI devices.

Like the other Sony LCD HDTVs, the Bravia KDL-40XBR2 has amazing colors and clarity. HD content is top notch and looks life-like and 3 dimensional. Blu-ray and PS3 games will shine on this set and you will see 1080p at its best. DVD movies look good and Standard definition is not bad unless you watch really low quality SD stuff. That’s when you’ll see some motion blurring that is known to happen in LCD TVs, but it’s not that bad. There are tons of options in the menu for you to mess around with and tweak to your heart’s content if you don’t like the picture out of the box and you can spend an hour doing that. Menu is great.

Sound quality is pretty good for an LCD HDTV should you plan on not getting some kind of sound system. It’s no home theater, but it’s also no cellphone speaker. One cool feature of the Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR2 1080p LCD HDTV is the ability turn off the picture while listening to music.

Everything’s been pretty much positive so far for the Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR2 1080p LCD HDTV. It has great visuals, decent audio, and it even looks good turned off, but there is a con to this set that hasn’t been mentioned yet that may turn you off and seemed to affect 50% of the people that bought this set.

Clouding (white blotchy parts) appears to be a problem with this model along with the XBR3 model. (XBR2 and XBR3 are pretty much the same thing except XBR3 has a nice piano black bezel and comes with 18 months warranty instead of 12.) There are people who bought the Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR2 LCD HDTV with no clouding problem and some people find the clouding to be tolerable because it only appears when the TV is displaying black and the beautiful images outweigh it. The clouds don’t appear during full colorful scenes which is most important.

If not for the clouding, the Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR2 1080p LCD HDTV would be perfect. If you don’t think it will bother you, then by all means pick this up. It’s definitely a beautiful set with beautiful pictures and you will be constantly awed, but only if you can put up with the clouds or are lucky enough to get one without clouds.
